ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Now in our third summer, PROJECT BROADWAY carries on the same theater arts education PLAYHOUSE GREENHOUSE grows during the school year! Whether your child is a seasoned performer or new to the stage, each day will be full of artistic enrichment and learning. We keep our focus on the fundamentals of theater arts: storytelling through acting, voice and dance. While emphasis is placed on the performance discipline, students are encouraged to work as a time while exploring their own unique contributions to the performance. The results are improvements in self-esteem, stage presence, patience, confidence and self-control. The final performance takes place on the last day of classes on the Playhouse stage, followed by a pot-luck party for all cast members, family and friends.

“Critics Fans and Fanatics”

Review by Silas Kain:

“Critics, Fans and Fanatics” gives us a lighthearted insight into the “good, the bad and the ugly” of theater criticism and the worlds of Victoria and Charles, two “Another World” Soap Opera stars as well as TV and theatre actors. The play- reading begins with various “reviews spanning decades of theater. From Tallulah Bankhead to Alan Bates, one is taken on a humorous journey through critical reviews capturing the pomposity of so many critics. More often than not the audience was left laughing at the words from the so-called “experts.” The banter between Wyndham and Keating is a delight as they work with a synchronicity rarely seen amongst actors these days. Keating recounts stories of his days on the London stage where theater is a serious matter and gleefully shares that there are many “critics” within an audience who do not hesitate to shout their disapproval of a live performance. “ The play-reading continues with letters from fans of all ages. Keating observes,” the fans and the cast have been gambled by procter and proctored by gamble.” An Evening of Theatre ART is a fundraising event to benefit City Lights Gallery and the Playhouse on the Green, formerly known as the Polka Dot Playhouse.

About Critics, Fans and Fanatics: Taken from the review of Silas Kain:

Playwright David Mamet won the Pulitzer Prize for Glengarry Glen Ross which had its stage premiere in London in 1982. Known for its “Mamet speak”, precisely crafted adult dialogue which is seen as cynical, with a street-smart edge, this play was later made into a movie with Alan Arkin, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Jack Lemmon, Al Pacino and Kevin Spacey in some of the starring ensemble roles.

This play is a co-production with the New Haven Theater Company and T. Paul Lowry is the Director and Artistic Producer of all performances. There will be 6 performances on April 23, 24, 25 and April 30, May 1, and May 2 at Playhouse on the Green, 177 State Street in Bridgeport, CT. Audiences will be fascinated with the plot which shows the desperation of Chicago real estate agents over a two day period and the unethical and illegal tactics that they are willing to try.

When Eli Newsom takes the stage Friday night at Stamford’s newly renovated Kweskin Theatre, the only thing separating him from the audience will be a thin strip of cloth — a g-string, that is.

“But not for long,” joked the Bridgeport resident. “I’ll be donning and losing the g-string!”

Newsom is one of six male actors starring in the Curtain Call and Playhouse on the Green co-production of “The Full Monty,” on stage at the Kweskin Theatre through Feb. 28 and Bridgeport’s Playhouse on the Green March 12 to 28.

Based on the 1997 British film of the same name, the rock musical centers on a half-dozen middle-aged steel workers who go the way of Chippendales, stripping for cash after losing their jobs in a depressed manufacturing city.

According to Newsom, one of the most stressful aspects of rehearsals has been getting used to wearing a g-string and nothing else, a feat that means “creating a safe and comfortable environment” for male cast members.

“We’re doing it step by step,” said Newsom, adding the cast’s real-life experience hasn’t differed much from that of the fictional steelworkers. “First we take our shirts off. Then the pants. If they blast enough light on us maybe we won’t know the audience is there.”
