You lead a busy, hands on life. Between juggling kids, pets and work, you don’t have time to think about all the bacteria you are exposed to on door knobs and handles throughout the day, both in your home and outside. On untreated surfaces, bacteria can double in number every 20 minutes.
That’s why we partnered with Microban to develop the first door hardware with built-in antimicrobial product protection to help make your homes cleaner. You can now have 24 hour antimicrobial protection for your door hardware without lifting a finger.
What is Microban Technology ?
Antimicrobial technology by Microban is built-in to door hardware to protect against the growth of bacteria on the hardware surface, as well as other plastics, paints, textiles, and ceramics. By permanently adding Microban antimicrobial technology to door hardware, we’re permanently protecting the product from the unseen forces that can cause odors, staining, and product deterioration, leaving the hardware cleaner for a longer period between cleanings.
Small amounts of silver ions disrupt the normal microbial processes, preventing them from reproducing and colonizing on our door hardware. Our products don’t contain any triclosan or triclocarban.
How Does Microban Antimicrobial Technology Work?
The Microban antimicrobial technology is incorporated into the hardware’s finish during the manufacturing process. Microban technology then works around the clock to inhibit the growth of bacteria on the hardware, protecting the knobs or levers you use every day. Microban product protection lasts for the lifetime of the hardware finish and will not wash off or wear away with use. Our hardware with Microban technology stays cleaner and lasts longer than those without the protection.
What Type of Microorganisms Does Microban Protection Work Against?
Microban technology is effective against most common bacteria that cause stains, odors and product degradation.. It is proven effective in reducing the growth of bacteria up to 99.99% on treated surfaces. Additionally, the silver ion technology is constantly present, protecting your hardware 24/7.
What is Antimicrobial Technology?
Antimicrobial technology can be defined as a substance that works to inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria, mold and mildew.
Unlike disinfectants which provide a limited residual activity once the treated surface dries, integrated antimicrobial technology works to continuously reduce the growth of microbes throughout the entire lifecycle of a product. Many substances can be described as antimicrobial. These include antibiotics and antimicrobial additives. However, there are key differences between the two terms.
Is Microban Safe?
Your safety is our number one concern, even beyond securing your home. Microban technologies are registered with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) specifically for this use, and our hardware featuring the technology is safe to use. Because the antimicrobial additives are built into our products themselves, use of the product doesn’t directly expose you to the antimicrobial environment in the way that products like disinfectants or liquid antibacterial soaps might. Additionally, products with Microban Antimicrobial Technology never contain triclosan or triclocarban.
Risk assessments by independent scientists, scientific bodies and governmental agencies (including EPA, FDA and regulatory authorities in Europe and Canada) evaluate the impact of antimicrobials on human health and safety, and have consistently reconfirmed the antimicrobial additives at the levels approved for use in consumer products.
